Listed below are personal records for James Goetz. As
with overall performance, certain values will fluctuate when training and
competing in a specific sport for a certain event. For instance, the best times
James Goetz was able to achieve the 5K does not coincide with the same time
period as his top bench press weight. Goetz obviously focused more on distance
running during this time than he did with upper body strength and power
training.
This
is not something unique with only James Goetz, but can be seen even if only
looking at a football team. Typically linemen can lift heavier weights than do
running backs. However, running backs have better times in the 40- yard dash.

Training
for sports can become quite specific. It appears obvious that Goetz was a
runner in the 1990’s and gradually became more of a power athlete.
It
would make sense Goetz’s bodyweight may also have increased since running, as
runners often have a higher metabolic rate than do non-runners.
It
will be interesting to see how and if these numbers will once again change as
Goetz prepares for the Berkley’s Ultra Marathon. To finish and win this race,
James Goetz will have to be in the absolute best shape of his life!
